Seattle cornerback Josh Jobe read the throw perfectly and came down with the interception, sealing New England’s fate with just 26 seconds left on the clock.
Maye finished the night 23-for-33 for 178 passing yards, one touchdown, three interceptions, and 47 rushing yards. It marked the first time in his career he’s thrown three picks in a single game.

Maye Owns the Mistake

Speaking to reporters after the game, Maye didn’t shy away from what went wrong. He pointed to a loss of patience as the reason the game slipped through his hands, calling his performance “unacceptable.” It’s a rare admission, but one that speaks to how much the young quarterback understands what was at stake in a game his team controlled for most of the night.
The loss also extends a rough stretch against Seattle’s defense specifically — Maye has now been intercepted five times across his last two games against the “Darkside Defense,” including two picks in the Super Bowl earlier this year.

The Patriots won’t have much time to dwell on the loss. They’re back in action for Week 2 on September 20, hosting the Pittsburgh Steelers at home.
