Severe Storm Warning for Pennsylvania and Mid-Atlantic — Tornadoes Possible Saturday Night

The National Weather Service has issued an Enhanced Risk — Level 3 out of 5 — for severe storms across eastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, and parts of the Mid-Atlantic on Saturday. Forecasters say multiple rounds of storms are expected from 10 a.m. through midnight.
A First Alert is in effect for the Philadelphia region due to poor air quality and severe thunderstorms on Saturday, July 18, 2026.
The National Weather Service warns of damaging winds, tornadoes, flash flooding, and large hail in scattered to numerous severe storms, with multiple rounds expected throughout the day and into the night.

What to Expect

Tornado watches are in effect for several counties in Pennsylvania including Pike, Luzerne, Schuylkill, Lebanon, and Lancaster, with warnings running through 9 p.m. Saturday night.
The main threats are damaging wind gusts, flash flooding in urban areas, large hail, and the possibility of one or two tornadoes. The cold front moving in from the northwest is the driver — it’s colliding with warm, humid air already sitting over the region.

The Good News

The Canadian wildfire smoke that had been sitting over the Northeast for days is clearing out. While the air quality is expected to improve over the weekend, the next threat on Saturday will be severe storms that could bring heavy rain, flooding and possible tornadoes.
By Sunday, skies should clear completely. Temperatures will drop into the low 80s with lower humidity — a significant relief after days of triple-digit heat and hazardous air quality.

The Week Ahead

Sunday and Monday look clean. Tuesday brings another round of storms as a new system moves in. By Thursday and Friday, high pressure takes over and the region gets a stretch of dry, comfortable weather with cool nights.

What To Do Now

If you are in the warned counties, charge your phone, know where your shelter is, and do not ignore tornado warnings tonight. Flash flooding is also a serious threat — do not drive through flooded roads.
